Since I regretfully sold my 120 gallon last year Ive been dying to get another tank. So I finally saved up and bought a 135 gallon tank. After wrestling it into my apartment I got it set up and running. Right now it's just cycling with sand and some light. I'm dying to get fish in there, but I have to be patient and do things right.

I plan on having another cichlid tank again since aggressive fish really get me excited. I was thinking maybe a peacock bass but I dont want something that will outgrow my tank so I am sticking with the smaller cichlids.

If anyone else is into the hobby post up!

Pics of my new tank soon!

Here is some of my old tanks

Nice! I've always wanted to get a saltwater tank and try the live rock thing, but my wife has always talked me out of it. She's right of course. She tells me that it will be cool at first but after it while it will turn into a major chore. I know that is exactly how it would go for me, but I still often think about how cool it would be  :smt003

You don't need saltwater to make a vibrant tank:

Just this weekend a friend needed some space and gave me a 55g and this guy:

If he thrives I'll get him a few friends.  I've got hetch-hetchy water, which is unusually well suited to South American cichlids.

Aggressive fish and planted tanks don't mix unfortunately, but you'd need like 300W to light that baby anyway.  You could look into something a little more unusual like frontosas.

I used to raise buffalo head cichlids, they where a blast but really shy so the best way to breed them was to put the tank in a closet, not a real fun tank. I had a lot of different cichlids tanks over the years but have not had any lately due to lack of room.

Are you worried about and earthquake destroying them?

Uminchu is also a very skilled aquarium-ist.  He was able to culture the zebra plecco, a fish from the Amazon that is extinct in nature.  Only a handful of people in the world have done so.

Very cool , especially the large tanks with big fish ! Have always had a tank or 100 ( as a kid , Mom and Pops aquarium shop ) , no pics from me as our last tank of 15 years was shut down last year . Trying to reduce our inventory of pets as I'm getting older , probably always have a dog of some sorts though .

In my teens I had a buddy who had couple of Oscars , COOL FISH ! We ued to feed them good sized crawdads , now you see em , now you don't !!!

I didn't think zebra plecos are extinct, they're cites listed though so can't be imported legally anymore.  I imagine collecting is taking its toll.

Yeah, they were more like $50 a few years ago.  Probably the cites listing made for a very lucrative black market trade....

I have a 60gallon FW tank that currently has a gold tiger datnoid (awesome fish!), an ornate bichir, a royal pleco, and three lace cats. I used to have three needle nose gar, a king tiger pleco, and a redtail barracuda, but a faulty heater pretty much boiled them. Never buy a cheap heater! I also had an archerfish, but the Datnoid steadily tried to kill it, because it is the same shape as the datnoid and I think the datnoid thought it was a rival datnoid, so I had to take it back. The archerfish was bad ass, though. You can teach them to shoot crickets out of branches above your tank.

The tiger datnoid is my favorite. It is super smart. When it was with the barracuda it would snatch up as much food as possible knowing if it didn't the barracuda would get them all. Now that it knows the cuda isn't in there it takes its time and stalks its prey. It knows they aren't going anywhere and I swear it enjoys ambushing the ghostshrimp (closer to grasshrimp, actually) I feed it.

I also have a 20 gallon tank that has a Neolamprologus cylindricus, an Altolamprologus calvus, a Neolamprologus sexfasciatus, and two little Synodontis Decorus.
