I am posting as a reply to the message about no body posting anymore.

I went out Saturday at about 6:30 from SC Harbor.

Paddled out on a nice morning to an area west of the Buoy. I was getting bites like crazy for about an hour, but couldn't set the hook. They were probably a lot of little thieving olives, those bastards are tricky. After re-baiting a dozen times I got a call from Fish Flogger and khmunger and paddled with them to Southrock.

Immediately after meeting them there khmunger was hooked onto something, we all thought it was a hog but. However even though it seemed to be taking line off and on, we determined that it was probably a snag and the drift was making it look like a pig. We will probably never know.

I picked up a fat 3 lb. copper and fought the wind the rest of the day. Southrock was busy with a lot of the rental pb's I counted 6 off and on, but didn't see or hear a lot of action. khmunger did hook up a ling but it measured 23 inches, I guess he forgot his fish stretcher.

I headed back in around 11:15 to get back before my quarters ran out at noon.

Even though it was windy, the water was decent with 1 and 2 foot wind waves that made us go to 8 oz of lead to keep it near the bottom.

Thanks for the company fish flogger and khmunger, I look forward to more in the future.
The season is about over for rockfish so i am going out Monday with some non yakers on the Velocity where we should at least get a stringer full.

I am still gonna keep it up this year, and target buts and crab through the winter.
I have 4 crab traps with buoys and rope that was given to me this summer, so I will be looking for help with that. I think a couple guys could go out on a saturday set the traps and fish the day away. Then check the traps on the way back in and maybe go out the next day to fish some more and pick up the traps and head home.

I will provide the traps and share the crabs 50-50 with whoever helps haul them out and back in.

keep a look out for the posts in hook ups.

As this was my first year out on a yak, I feel like I had a good year and look forward to a good season next year.

Khmunger and I paddled out of the harbor at about 7:30 (left my license at home so had to make a quick trip back there). We pretty much paddled straight to Southrock and started hooking fish right away. The day started out with a few small rock fish. Then I picked up an underling. He probably went about 20". The rest of the day was filled with wind and spotty fishing. I caught probably another 1/2 dozen small rock fish. It was tough to stay over the reef with the wind and current so I spent a lot of time paddling back and forth. All fish were released.

The wild life was amazing. We saw whales and dolphins and a sea lion that followed me from the mile bouy all the way to south rock looking for a free meal.

It was great fishing with you guys.

All in all the 08 rock fishing season was mostly a bust. I caught fish consitantly but nothing huge and never in large numbers. Admitadly I had much less time to fish this year with the arrival of my daughter and I was mostly forced to fish in SC due to time limitations. Looking forward to next season.

Stoggie,

Do you do any fresh water fishing? Khmunger and I are going to make plans to do some striper/trout/bass fishing in the near future. Let me know if you would be interested in coming along.

I might try for some halibut one more time before the year is out but I'm about ready to switch gears.

WTG guys!  sounds like it was tough but you all hung in there.

South Rock is not too hard to get to, right?

too bad the drift kept you paddling.  Stoggie, WTG, man!  You are doing great.  I hope you take FF up on the trout/bass/striper proposition.  I definitely pan to.

For me today was all household chores.  Got the roofs and gutters ready for winter rains, cleaned up the trach pile and hired the dump run guy etc.

finished off the night with BBQ skirt steak, polenta, and grilled veggies, afterwhich a relaxing 30 minutes on the skateramp.

I am getting hungry for fish gotta get out there.  Maybe Davenport mid-week if the weather cooperates.  Anyone available for late launch (around 8:45; Wed or thurs perhaps?

Fish Flogger

I am up for fishing anything anywhere. Let me know we can get more in this winter.

I am up for some lake fishing, but don't have any experience in Calif. I did get some tips for some fatties on the lake in SC, might give that a try sometime.
