I've thought a lot about what to do when I get a fish that's just the biggest I've ever gotten. You know, that once in a lifetime fish. I always want to keep it but I also want it to get back out there and spread it's magical gigantor genes too. If I were to keep it I'm down to gyotaku and frame it but if I'm not going to keep it and it's a fish of a lifetime I'd love to have more than a pic. I found this sculptor the other day and from a picture that you take she'll sculpt and paint that magic fish into a replica trophy. She does some amazing work. Check it out! http://www.fishcarvings.com/index.html

That's good stuff, Bry.  When I get my 10,000 square foot house I'll have room for cool artwork like that   :smt009

There's a guy in the Fort Bragg area who creates a cool and very life-like abalone sculpture.  He creates the ab "meat" (epipodium, foot...etc.) and uses the actual shells in an underwater/tide pool scene.

What you've shown us here is the next step in being an avid appreciator w/o harvesting all the time.  Bravo.   :smt001

:smt003 No kidding. I'm sure the carvings are not even in the zip code of cheap but if it's a once in a lifetime fish...

I know that came off a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I really do dig it, and, unfortunately, I really do need a big house if I'm ever to have all the cool stuff I want.  Mostly because my wife wouldn't want any of it in an area frequented by her, our famillies, or the general public!   :smt005

Cool find Z.

I've worked on a couple of spec pieces for folks who wanted fish specific artwork, but that sculpture is well beyond what I've done.
I did make one 30" ling piece that is living up in the San Lorenzo Valley somewhere.
I guess I should be glad the guy who wanted a sturgeon piece didn't request it life size!

Would love to see a pic of that lingcod, Sean - do you keep an inventory of your work?

Thanks guys.
I do have a digi portfolio of sorts, I'll see if I can find a pic of the ling piece & put it on a separate thread. It was a burned image on a red panel.

One thing I can say to all artists take pics of everything

I've made a lot of one of a kind stuff that I'll never see again.

Thanks for the info Zee.

I'm a fan of the wood carving....I'd like to see what a big red & green hump back would look like?

Abking, You are right about the F.B. Taxie-man.......I had him do a two Ab mount boxed in a oak-glass case, and it looks great! I also saw him working on a Monster Ling about three years ago.....Wow!

thanks again Zee,

S.
