I did the same with my pedals but used a different and better approach..IMO
I also did the leash. Great idea. I kicked it up a notch with another strap but will post that later..I have company right now but had to sneak away for a moment.

I have a Quest without the peddle drive, one thing I found was the rudder brackets wear out eventuly and will pop free.  My fix was to unscrew them flip them around and place them on the opposite side and so now the top rungs ar enow at the bottom and the bottom are at the top.  Worked great , nice and tight again.

The Andy up in Santa Rosa gave me an old hatch and I cut out that big Hobbie Logo on the aft end of the boat and installed another 8" hatch.  It worked out pretty good because the logo stamp is the right size.

Nice work on the pedal weights Tote. Very handy work that looks really good. The leash on the MD is also a must if you're going to be launching through surf. You can fit the MD in the front hatch w/ some work in the Adventure but having a leash on it while setting up on the water would be nice. I was setting up a few weeks ago w/ some good bump on the water and had a close call. BTW on newer models the hold down tab for the sail can be unscrewed and replaced w/ a pad eye to clip your MD to.
