thanks guys!  Actually it was Paul's call to paddle south (so really it was your spot Adam, not mine, ha!), and also to stop at the holes where we stopped..  so with the credit, he's got plenty of karma built up for next trip.

John yeah, the fog lifted to normal ceiling after a couple hours, but we were about a quarter mile offshore and still saw the coast, fuzzyish mostly, til then.  It seemed more pea-soupy closer to shore.

Gary, thanks, I do wanna try for a hali there, and intended to sunday, just wanted to fish with Paul coz of the fog, not to mention he was the intelligent one of us who remembered to bring his radio.

Eric I have just fished 4 times this year; too busy at work, 6 days a week lately and it's tough to drag my a$$ to consciousness so early, on the one day I can chill.  But ima try to get out more now, to stock up for the winter.   Might take a Friday off, even.

Scott, yea you are right.  The ling was meaty given the length of it, but the black was a shocker to me.  The fins were really ling-like, heavy, rounded and wide.  That thing was really big and fat.  I need to start using bigger shrimp flies, like that one was.

I did get one other good takedown and even fought it for a bit, ended up finding out my swimbait lost the tail...

The hot plastics for me were fishtrap 7", halloween (the ling), and olive'brown/orange (the mystery takedown, and the medium sized black).   I will head to OPS and get a couple of each for next trip.  I also used about 4' of 30# fluorocarbon for leaders, tied straight to the lures, with shrimp flies on dropper loops.  All hooks were tipped with squid strips.  I think all fish were caught in 35-45 FOW, bottom to 3 feet off.

What's up with the birds.  We had pelicans and seagulls following us recently and now a cormorant?

This might explain why the birds are so hungry and aggressive around food.

Eric I have just fished 4 times this year

Sounds like time for a road-trip!   :smt003

Seriously though, you have a special touch, Craig.  You need to come fish with me at the Cape next Spring.

Keep up the good vibe, Bro.   :smt001

I should remind you guys that Craig is a seasoned ling-zilla killer at BH.  He caught a monster ling last year fishing between Ben (Guitarzan) and myself.  That thing measured close to or slightly over 40".  I remember Craig asking for help after it came to color for about the fifth time and then it ripped off line for another run to the bottom.  Ben helped bring the beast to the yak and for the next ten minutes Craig was introducing it to his "fish be nice" stick.  Legends of the Bean...

Ah.. memories... I should also add in there, that the 41" ling you mentioned was my 2nd ling caught - ever - the first was a couple weeks before that, around 27"... which I killed and held out of the way on my gaff while I went to get out my game clip..  And then while opening my hatch to get out the clip, turned the gaff enough so the ling dropped, dead, back into the ocean.  Since then I have caught like 5 or 6, including this one.   Just a lil perspective!  The 41" ling can be the legend... I'll give the lingzilla-killa nods to JTF, Sean(s), EK, Freddie, Harold, Ben and you too Gary, and many others ahead of me in that line!  I am just happy to have fish in my freezer again...  Yum.
