Launched from the North Jetty beach with FindThatFish at ~7am. Fog was thick. Got two plate sized rockfish and then a nice Ling within the first 30 minutes of fishing…….. and that was it.  The Navy slowly assembled on the water with fishinmike appearing out the gloom and then later Yakattack and Shicken. I'm not sure how many of us actually qualify as Newbies but neverthless we formed a tight formation and patrolled the waters north and east of the harbor. Fishing was incredibly slow. On top of that I had forgone the drammamine, not wanting to ruin evening plans by falling asleep face down in my food. I struggled mightily. In fact I'm still nauseous now. Altho' that maybe a result of those evening plans  :beer1. I ran out if ginger snaps at ~11 and had to head in. The other folks were still at it when I left. On the way in I ran into a circulation experiment in the harbor that had turned the water red. There is a link below.

Here are a couple of vids. The sound is a bit fuzzy in places. The fish porn content is no more than PG-13.

Ling in the fog, looks like good results to me. I've decided I dont fish in the fog. Or at least I don't paddle out into it willingly, if it shows up while I'm out there I will deal with it. Looking up from tying knots doesn't work if you can only see 30 feet ahead and no fixed landmarks.

Solid fishing Phil in less than favorable conditions!  Nice video, next best thing to being there. I am interested in what kind of recording device you used, and if it was self-manned, waterproof. Any information, would be much appreciated

Nice videos.

The dye is most likely rhodamine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodamine. It fluoresces and can be detected at extremely low concentrations.  Hopefully, they'll be able to get a good sense of the diffusion of nasty bacteria with this experiment.

Sure Red. It is an Olympus SW 850, a waterproof camera I bought to go snorkelling with in Hawaii. It's basically just a regular Olympus digital camera but all the internal compartments have rubber seals. I like it a lot. I think Jed has the same one. I bought a floating carry handle so it won't sink.

J Mairey; the good thing about HMB is the foghorn (is that what it's called in the US?) at the end of the north jetty. I could always orient to that and the lone patch of kelp that marks the spot we were fishing.

Actually looking back on it a legal Ling is a good days fishing. It's just that I caught it (and the rockies) straight away and then caught nowt else for the next 3hrs. If it had been the other way round (as it was when I caught my first Ling!) I would have been ecstatic.

Great to see you guys, I ended up with two black and yellows, and lost one nice looking ling by the boat. I kind of enjoyed being out in the fog. I never really had to use my gps before. here are some pictures:

you NEWBIES(1yr.&under) have been finding them pretty good there. A feat I could not.
Thanks for keeping the place active......did the red dye make it outside?

~Phil~ i agree wit cha....I'd rather get skunked ALL day and get that "1" good one at the end(hailmary style) then to get it right off the bat(first drop) and then get blanked for the remainder of day......give the the thrill of the hunt and then REWARD ME in the end!
