Got out with Scott from Aptos and Leo, my editor from the Sentinel.  Scott did great on his little Hobie with the turbo fins.  Launch was uneventful, landing was marginal, but happily on the relatively dry side.  Wumping wooshers were about 3 feet at the landing.

We floated the reef up to Scott's and found a slow but steady pick of gophers from 50-70 FOW, and a few lings.  I lost one at the net and caught one barely keeper.

Leo gets the bragging rights.  His 1st fish ever, much less for a kayak, weighed in at 11 pounds.  Before I gaffed it, he asked "is it legal?"  I said "oh, yeah I think so.  Fatty.

Wind was wierd, SW, then SE, then straight West around 10:45, and it commenced to build.  We headed in then.

In all, a very successful day in the fog, with great companions.  Leo is going to buy a kayak now, he's so stoked.  who wouldn't be?

Sweet.
Davenport can hold some nice fish, you just have to look for 'em.

It was a great day to be on the water. Did you notice any halibut action up in Davenport?  I didn't see anything off West Cliff. The only possibility was a brief takedown while drifting over sand between the lighthouse and the wharf.

Thanks Zee.  This guy is a natural, never got flustered, let it run repeatedly.  Lucky it was a solid hookset.  Dinner for all.
