sean, I kind of regret my statement because after 40 years I've almost
learned to be polite in company, but definitely not on a forum. I never
know when I've stepped over the line in my eagerness to make some
point.

and actually I meant to say:

"retail therapy babee, if you can't go fishing, buy something".

"can't fish" might be read another way and that would not apply to you,
nor any of the people on this forum. But "can't go fishing", well that's
pretty universal, so I hope you'll believe I meant it that way.

but I think I still like my point about style. It's clear you have a lot and
like I said to some extent, you have more with the family abus, at least
in my eyes.

What about using the "extra" money to get backup abus?

I know I will destroy, lose, snarl, etc my reel(s), so I actually got 3
used abus on ebay.  I bring one along and keep it in the hatch for when
something happens to a reel on a rod. Of course so far nothing has
happened, other than losing a spool tensioning knob,
but you _know_ what will happen if I don't bring that extra
reel...

The issue in baja was not having a spare reel. Cause the bling
reel could have broken almost as easy. I mean, it's baja, man!
what doesn't break? baja doesn't care how much things cost.

If you do get a $120 reel, you should get two anyways, right? cause it'll
still break down, get lost, get stolen, borrowed by jellyfish, need to
be sent in for service, etc.

But I'd be honored to use your old abu's if you get new reels,  :smt002.
$25 a reel. paypal. I'll put 'em on the rod I get from erik next fall!
