Hooked up with 152 Sumo yesterday for a day on the Delta (where else would you expect me to be...).  Sumo started the day off with the first fish.  But, with no topwater action, the bite seemed off.  Later in the morning, I picked up this chunky 4 pound, 2 ounce bass on the crankbait (pic 1).  After that the bite seemed to disappear.  I picked up a couple small bass, also on the crawdad crank.  Sumo and I went looking for the stripers, but the search was for nada.  Sumo checked his GPS unit to make sure we were not lost yet (pic 2).  Then about 1.5 miles from the marina, a cable snapped on my Mirage Drive peddle system.  Good thing the wind and tide were in synch and allowed me to float and fish home.  I picked up one more keeper on the way in, but it was a slow day for sure.  Sumo, it was good to fish with you again; we'll have to do it again when the stripers are hungry.

Today, I went out without the peddles for the first time (pic 3).  It wasn't too bad, plus I enjoyed the extra leg-room.  I picked up a nice 2 pound 12 ounce bass right off, before the sun came up.  Then I noticed my floating crank was now a sinker...bummer, looked like the hook pierced the plastic body and made a pinhole.  I switched my game plan and threw a smaller crank.  Apparently size doesn't matter, as this 5 pound 5 ounce bass wanted the smaller crank just as much (pic 4).  I got several more average sized LMB on cranks.  I even picked up a couple on the jig (pic 5).  I ended up with a 11 pound 12 ounce limit (all released of course).

If anyone wants to hook-up, just PM me, I'll be going out again next weekend with or without the fins.

Question HobieBlue / I want to put a Scotty Rod Holder on my Hobie right where you have yours.  Does it get in the way of the Peddles?  It seems you would only be able to have the Rod go straight over the Bow without interfering with the leg movement.

khmunger--I like the position of my rodholder.  I don't do much trolling with it, but mostly use it as a place to put my rod when re-tying, re-baiting worm hooks, applying sunscreen, etc.  When I troll for strippers, I hold the rod in my hand while peddling (except last Sunday when the rodholder was put to its intended use of trolling while paddling).  I can peddle fine with it in the position you see in the picture.  I set it up so that it goes across the bow of the yak, and is tilted at a slight to moderate upward angle.  If it were pointing the other way, the rod handle interferes with the peddle action.

I hope this helps.

khmunger,

I have my holder right there too. It does get in the way of the peddle unles you angle it. Then it works fine. Make for an easy grab when fish hits :smt002

Way to go, Bryan.   Good pics and good report.    I see you are still hammering them out there.   Nice fish!
