Angel, were you fishing fairly close to Limekiln when you got those dabs? There's plenty of sand in that area. Several years ago when we had that weird season that opened in May or June, then closed on an 'emergency' basis for the entire month of July - the heart of my long-planned week at Limekiln - I was forced to find a target other than the rockfish. It was a no-go on the halibut (I'm sure they are there if you look at the right time) - but dabs, those guys were thick out front.

Yeah, we were pretty close to Limekiln, maybe about .25 miles or so from the launch. We found plenty of sand, I was even purposely letting my iron drag on the bottom hoping it would catch onto a reef somewhere along the way.  The thought of halibut did cross my mind but I didn't want to stick around too long and not run into one.

Dabs seemed to be relatively thick.  If we would have had a few small hooks I'm sure we would have done pretty good with them.  The ling I caught also had one in it's belly.

Angel -

Nice report and ling. Most people fish south out of Mill Creek although there are some spots to the north. Thanks for scouting the sand dab spots, I actually like them more than rockfish and will hit the area the next time I go to LK. Very clever dragging iron to find structure in the absence of a FF. Should have dragged Adam down there with you.  :smt003

Scott there are plenty of spots south of Mill Creek for Sand Dabs in 100' of h2o. Sackyak and I found plenty of small flat action on the way down to the wash rock.

Alan and I found them all over the sand in front of LK. Downsize gear at 90 feet on any sand and it's non stop.

So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........
