Nice clip Sean.   What movie is that from?

About 7 years ago when I lived in San Diego, my sister came to visit. We were walking on along the water front in La Jolla (the park near the bridge club south of the cove to be exact) and there were a bunch of people practicing/learning capoeira.  My sister had never seen capoeira before and didn't know what to make of it.  Every one was rhythmically rocking back and forth and occasionally one of them would kick up a foot and do what looked like a half-hearted cartwheel (but must have been some sort of killer capoeria death kick).  Finally after we passed, she turned to me and asked it that had been a "special" gymnastics class of some sort.

Can't see the video, but judging by the responses it's the one where the capoeira dude gets blasted in the face by a superman punch. It's a scene from the movie "Never Back Down", I believe...although I heard the movie was lame and I haven't seen it.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

It's a good thing those were KO's because only two out of all the rest could have had a follow-up shot.
Kind of hard to give kudos for a KO when the person giving the shot ends up on the ground or with their back to their opponent after the shot.

Yeah.  You have to generate a LOT of power to really be effective, and when your foot/leg "stops" the rest of your body is already in motion to complete the spin.  It's hard to stop when you're rocking a full spin horse kick.  For every action there is... and all that.

Being on the ground in a 1v1 is often not as bad as you may think, if you're prepared and trained for it.  A lot of people don't know how to deal with an opponent on the ground .. how to pass guard or what to look for and take advantage of.  ex: Brazillian jiu-jitsu.  Having your back to the opponent, however, is a huge no-no.  You don't take him down you won't see the blow that takes you down.

Capoeria is a beautiful sport but I've never been impressed with its actual combat capabilities.  No offense to any capoeristras but you go inverted and, at best, I'm going to bullrush your ass and put your head in the ground.  I've take a few styles ... capoeria, tae kwo do, Gracie ju-jitsu, kung-fu..  Kung-fu was always the most well-rounded style.  Gracie was too much ground work (6'6" 250 which is great, until they pass guard and you have no leverage due to long limbs) and I was good at tae-kwon-do (reach) until people get inside.  Capoeria was fun in the purest sense of the word but ... shrug.

Anything that gets your legs above waist level or puts your back to the opponent is either a finisher you'd better hope works... or a mistake.  Which is why you never see it in any MMA competition.  Better finishers: spinning backfist/hammerfist.

Of course, heavyweight boxers are putting something like 400 lb/sq in of force in a punch so...nothing but finishers.   :smt044
