Sorry, no photos! Launched at Santa Cruz harbor at 11:30 AM and returned at 3:30 PM. There was quite a big swell, but it was long period and there was virtually no wind chop. Paddled over past the lighthouse and drifted an anchovie popsicle. There was no live bait available. Caught my largest undersized halibut yet. Great fight, really fat, but an inch or two too short. My friend picked up a huge cabezon in the same area, but close to the kelp. Probably 8 pounds. A guy in a skiff also picked up a smaller cabbie. Both guys were using lures tipped with squid.  Considering that most people were getting skunked in the big swell, I had a good time.

Thanks Allen.  It was really nice out there today. Overcast skies shifting to sun, high 60's. Crazy swell, though. We had to pay attention while drifting near Steamers Lane.

It's always good to get out on the water, Eric.  How is the fishing up in Humboldt?

Rockfish/lingcod-wise, we're shut down for the year.  I'm working on home projects and also busy at work, so my next target is river fishing once it rains.  I've also got a couple of good ab trips to do before the end of the year.  It's not so bad.   :smt001

thanks for the report ganoderma. I have still yet to catch a cab around here. I've heard of people catching them in the kelp beds but it doesn't seem to be the norm for this area. 8lbs is a lunker cab  :smt007
