Friday BH 9/5

I believe Guitarzan did hook a mackeral that came off.

As usual it was an awesome time.  Almost every time I go there I see something new: a snake on the trail, dolphins, whales, etc...  this time it was the sunfish!

Sean, I was just paying you back because you were unknowingly giving me paddling lessons as we headed up north to the rest of the group after the sighting.  You paddle so smoothly and quietly, it really gives me something to strive for.

I caught a borderling that had a still bleeding wound, like something had it in it's mouth.  I let it go hoping for the Thing That Ate The Borderling, but no dice.  I did release a decent grassy, and a smallish cab that chewed up my finger pretty good before I could get him back in the drink.

I still need to wash my stuff...  see ya!

Glad to know my forward stroke still holds up to scrutiny after all these years. All that "rotate the torso, push with your upper hand, relax your grip on the paddle, pretend there's a steel rod holding your spine in place" still pays off.

Getting out on LakePacific-O. when it's like it was, is just a treat....it waould have been a lot more of a treat if I got to fight something BIG!, but not all hunts end that way.

I also noticed your paddle technique when we fished together a few weeks ago. I am still working on my low angle forward stroke. I do try to minimize noise, especially at da bean.

It looks like you guys had a great day!    I've fished BH but only from the rocks...one of these days I'll get up the courage to try a launch there.  Have any of you Outback owners launched at Bean, and if so how was it?  My yak is a bathtub when it comes to maneuverability, and I fully expect my first real surf launch to be a yard sale of epic proportions.

They are strange things. How do they survive? Why do seals not eat them all?

I chased it for a miunte or two(to get pic) and it's not fast, but was looking at me when i'd cut it off as if it were saying,"don't you have enough stuff to do out here, go bother something else"...so i did!........now where's that whale?

It's Different,

What I do, I don't have the straps on the Pedals, I have the pedals in, make my launch, paddle a bit and the pedal thru

 the surf, It's a bit risky, if you get tossed, those pedals are going to do whatever in the rolling surf.

 having the hook in place to keep the pedals from letting the fins down would help here.

Landing....  Sometimes I pull the pedals and leash them off,  other times, i just hook the pedals to keep them in place retracted, and when I get close to the beach, get out quick and lift the front end up as to not drag the fins on the sand.

All that being said, while I was down at Rancho leonareo, they had a couple Hobies and people that had no idea how to use them. They were getting thrashed, dug into the sand, left out all night ect... ect...

They were holding there own quite well, alittle on the " Loose " side. but everthing was working well.

I have since then not worried too much about " Breaking " anything or letting the fins rest in the sand ect,,,ect...

they taste like crap I believe. I watched a seagull picking at the guts of a dying one swimming on its side 2 weeks ago in the middle of a full on bird/bait event. even the gull didn't like it. I thnk they eat jellyfish and taste like what they eat.
