I got a call from my buddy. He was dogging a school of salmon today. 6 fish, biggest 32, the rest for low teens. Water temp at the mouth of the old sac is down to 71 degrees. I might be hitting the water in my boat ( not yak ) to scout out the scene this weekend. Once the water hits 67, time to get the yak out and starting nailing those fat hens. I'll have more information and hopefully pics this weekend.

Fishing the Sacramento doesn't have the extra rules that fishing salmon further north does, right?

The only big rules to watch for:   Treble hooks can be no bigger than 3/4" gap, single with more than 1". That one is against the snaggers out there.

But you can use barbed hooks unless that has changed since last year.

Fishing hours are for one hour before sunrise, to one hour after sunset.

You will also need to have a bay delta "ripoff" enhancement stamp. You must also carry a net of the minumum size requirements.

No punch cards are required.

The best bites are usually right at sunrise, or on the tide changes.

Where is the mouth of the old sac? Is that down in the delta?

Travis, its near rio vista, about a mile upriver. The good old delta for sure.

Two of the most interested things I have seen in the delta are a floating dead cow and crap on a paper plate that I saw twice, once when the tide was going out and again when the tide flipped.

Let me know when you go out there Brian.  I will try to join you.  What do you usually catch the salmon on there?

I will be in my klamath boat this weekend. Gotta have the more powerful sonar to see what's out there. Might also head south of the river mouth and troll for stripers. There are still some big locals out there to be caught.
