I fished both Sunday and Monday. Sunday was more of an opportunity to see if I could figure out how to catch some bait. Struck out with the bait but I did meet up with a fellow yaker that taught me quite a bit about bait as well as kayak fishing for sailfish in Baja. A cool guy with tons of great stories.

Today was a different story. I managed to head out about 9am to the fishing area that I had drifted through the day before. This time I was armed with chovysicles for bait. I managed 4 long drifts without a bite before I checked my bait only to notice that the head was the only thing left on the hook. I rig up a very primitive stinger, bait up and drop for the drift. 10 minutes into it, I get the hit, let the line run for about 10 seconds and then set the hook. Fish on! The butt went on at least three good runs before I was able to subdue the vicious beast and It was awesome to see what happens when they get up to the surface. They don't go down with out a fight! Thanks to someone in a near by boat, I was able to get my catch measured (24 1/2) and on the stringer.

For the last two days the wind has been fairly tame at ARW. Sunday I was pushed off the water by about 1:30 and today I left about 11:30 without any significant wind in sight.

It has been a great couple of days out there.

Cheers!

WTG. did you fish the same area from last week? NCKA hali hunters have been super effective lately. There are some PBs who have keyed in on this and now regularly check in on us on ch69 at ARW

I was in a different spot than last time. Much closer to the launch ramp. I have it all marked in GPS but I need to upload it to map it out.

A couple of things to mention - water temp 69 degrees, 35 ft deep, drifting at .6 MPH, close to slack tide on the high side, 3 oz. weight, and I caught this beast on a bass rod!

BTW - I just had one of the fillets for dinner... Pan fried in clarified butter with a white white, dijon, and caper sauce. So good!

way to go!   It was an NCKA hali weekend.   I caught my first one by kayak on Saturday at MBK.   (see the report).

I'll have to try your recipe.   sounds great.
