Hey Yak Dudes and Dudettes,

For reasons such as a love for the ocean, fishing and a need for exercise, I have decided to take the plunge so to speak and purchase a kayak. I have been on Party Boats fishing for Salmon around Dux and seen numerous paddlers out there enjoying themselves and actually catching fish. I always wanted to try it.

So here I am, an old fart (57) that stands 6'1" and weighs around 225 wondering which yak I should buy and wondering if you seasoned vets can offer advice.

Because of some minor problems with an A-C joint that occasionally flares up, propulsion through pedal power seems to me to be the best option. Don't get me wrong, I CAN paddle, just not for prolonged periods of time.

That being said, which of the Hobie models do you recommend and why?

Thanks in advance for your sage advice.

Hank

In case you're wondering, Metalhead refers to my love for Steelhead fishing and not a music preference.

The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Pedal an Outback, a Revolution and an Adventure and then make up your mind from there.
If you are already set on a pedal vs. paddle kayak you have narrowed the field down considerably. From there it is a personal choice.
I went with the Revo because I felt it was easier to maneuver and easier to get to the front hatch.
Test drive all three. Then you can definitely make the right choice.
