I know the skipper of the Hulicat well, we worked together a lot on MLPA issues, if i can help I will, an albie trip would be fun.

In baja we just piled the yaks along the rail, and tied them off-- not sure why that wouldn't work here?

Seems to me that by the time you had the yaks launched, the school of albies would be long gone. You usually don't have that much time from when you locate the school to when the action is over, IMO, even with chumming. I am also not sure I would want to fight a 50# albie from a yak, hmmmmm... :smt005 All that said, if the price was right, I would go.

One last thing, if you did get multiple yaks launched and you had multiple hookups, seems like the probably of getting cut off or collision would be significant. Since you are depending on the sleigh ride to wear them down and there is no way to steer them. Could be fun though as long as you don't mind losing fish.

GB2,
i hear ya on loosing jig stop school. I was thinking of deploying in an area where hookups have occured and trolling in groups. furthermore i would suggest we use a modified " Bob Franko" approach whereby we all troll the same lure/
bait at the same distance behind, and stay in formation, to form a uniform pseudo-baitball.
lures i would suggest
1. Rapala Xrap Magnum 30 Deepdiver. Last season we pulled 2 of these with 6 clones. they took 80 per cent of the seasons troll fish and almost always popped first in multiples.
2. Uniform swimbaits.
3. Live Bait possibly? I guess something like dines or smelt. something tougher than chos..
This wold take cooperation!
Can anyone say boatshy bluefin or bigeye? :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
The Death Spiral would be challenging on a yak with a big fish :smt003
Anyone with actual expierence, rather than my theory?

I like your thinking. I don't know of this being done before and I like the teamwork and adventure. Jim Sammons, Bluewater Jon and others have caught good sized YFT from yaks but I have not seen any albies from yaks. Of course this might also work for salmon if we ever get to fish.

That's the technique i'm sure would work-- troll till a hook up (multiple would be preferred). Then dump yaks. I'd think you'd want to live bait slow troll, or swimbait.

i do think that you can keep albies close enough on a jig stop to get at least 3 yaks launched. Provided of course that you're tossing livies, and don't drop any fish...seems as soon as you drop one then you're hosed.
YOu'd want boats primed and ready- jump in with paddle and rod, and off ya go

They're be tangles, and maybe even some knocks-- but nothing that would be too severe i'm sure.
