I hit Stillwater today and fished from 0730 to 1100.  No wind but there was a decent swell moving through.  The rockfish were turned on.  I landed with a 11 fish, 52# stringer. The fish were so big that my fishbag wouldn't fit inside the front hatch of my Scrambler XT!  The final score included: 3 Vermillion, 5 Copper, 1 Yellowtail, 1 Gopher and 1 Lingcod (25").   I released 2 other 24" lings hoping for a larger one, but the qualityof the rockfish was so good, those lings willnot be missed.

BTW,  I was fishing barbless jigs too (by-products of the coastal rockfish tagging study in June).

Would post pics if I knew how...

Nice fish.  You slayed some really nice ones.

We've got a trip planned up there in a few weeks and I'm hoping finish up my ab card and duplicate your results on the fish.

Was there any kelp in/around the cove?  I'd like to know if I should bring my anchor for abbing.  Usually there is, but I hear this year is pretty sparse on the kelp front.

Looks like some excellent tacos.

How deep were the fish?

I just got back from San Diego and my mind is racing about how I can translate the success we had in the kelp down there to the kelp up here.

Where did you fish, Molbasser?  Randy and I will be doing SD the first week in September.  Any tips?
Oops, found your report.  Thanks.  I would delete this post but can't figure out how to......... :smt017

Josh... two weekends ago at Fort Ross the kelp was very sparse.

I was able to tie off to some to dive, but I had to hunt around for a good stalk where normally it's thick as all get out.

Good job, the water in the background looks incredible.

Point Loma was the place I was at, but if you want kayak company just head to the La Jolla kelp.  There is always a plastic flotilla out there.

Check out http://www.sdfish.com for all of your San Diego fishing needs.

PM me with any questions.

Promethian: Kelp was very sparse in the cove so I would suggest an anchor.

I started the day trolling for salmon and found a 100-120' reef where I stopped and tried my luck for some rockfish (hence barbless jigs).  I soon forgot about trolling for salmon.
