I watched one of the great Jamaican films last month, "Rockers". It's in the same vein as "harder they come" but with less violence and more reggae music. Anyway, there is a scene in the film where the hero gets a custom paint job on his motorcycle in a little alley studio. It got me thinking about the color and design, and what would I have painted? This then combined with a need for some more art on the covered porch of my house. Here's the result, mon. I think it turned out pretty Irie.

Great work Piscean! That's a beauty. I gotta look through your work someday and pick one of those up. And btw, Rockers is the sh*t. It's all about the first scene w/ the og's and the smoke signals...  :smt005

Thanks Z!
With hindsight I should have prepped the panel better. It's made from shipping pallet boards but I didn't even sand them. In a way I guess the rough sawn edges sort of lend it street cred.

Its about 18" square. I just cut up the pallet to get 5 boards without nailholes, and used a couple of the boards on the back to make the panel, then glued and nailed it together.

So Kool,

Really like your work,

Interesting that it has the likeness to a LionFish,

I had just read a article about how LionFish are devastating the Caribean Reef Fish.

It is thought that 6 Lionfish in a private aquarium escaped during Katrina and now are a Big Problem.

Great work,  are you ever going to offer your work for sale?

Thanks Don! It started out as a generic rockfish, then it sort of became more of a cabbie...you're right though, the tall dorsal does remind me of a lionfish.

I'm not sure when I'll have another show, but I do usually have a few pieces for sale at the white raven coffeehouse in Felton (right now there are rockfish and salmon pieces up). The stuff I put up for sale is much more refined, with sanded edges :smt005

I've done a number of custom pieces to spec as well. Once the saltwater season ends & winter arrives I'll probably have more stuff in the works. For now the painting is pretty "instant gratification" and more peaceful than running power carving tools.

Sean,

Irrrrrreeeee-mon!!!!

The lack of sanding enhances the look IMHO. Ane I love the White Raven!!!

Years back, I decide to build a backgammon board. I went over to Southern Lumbar and bought thin sheets of zebrawood and other hardwoods to make the board.

Only after I finished inlaying the board onto a plywood base did I realize that I should have sanded the plywood. As the glue dried it pulled all my perfectly fitting inlays down into the voids of the plywood and left a less than a perfectly flat surface. Everybody thought it was beautiful, but it bugged me so much I gave it away. :smt013

Thanks HDRich!
I've certainly had my share of projects that got wrecked by the same type of thing.
The owners of the White Raven were my close neighbors for years when we first moved to Bonny Doon, and are still very dear friends. I usually have a few wall hanging pieces up in the rear of the shop, and  occasionally I have items featured in the special glass case in the back. Every couple of years I get on the schedule to have a show there.

Thanks for all the positive comments me brethren! I say lets go fish it to the fullness!
