Santa Cruz Harbor

I went by the fish cleaning station today and just thought I should give a report.  The third of 3 Albacore was caught today (admittedly, 50 miles offshore) but the bite might be starting.  In the trash bin was a huge Halibut (I would guess maybe up to 40#) caught somewhere.  It's happening Guys!

Last Tuesday I was at the fish cleaning station and 3 Guys from a private boat were cleaning their Fish.  There was a 1 1/2' by 1 1/2' pile of Rockfish cleaned plus 6 Lings plus some Halibut.  They say they got them off the Lighthouse in 65' - 70' of water.  It's happening Guys!

Join us this Sunday and we will show you what is possible or the proverbial "Skunk".  Anything is possible but the Fish Cleaning Station is saying it is "Possible".

My wife was walking the dog down to the harbor and called me to say she saw a large halibut carcus. I checked the water temp report and saw warmer water coming our way 30+- miles. Hopefully it will get to 15 miles.

I was down at the harbor today with my wife and saw a guy with a smaller albacore showing it off by bayside marine.  While eating my lunch at Aldos, saw two yaks landing at the ramp, maybe that was you guys around 1:30?

No, I was just at the Harbor reprogramming my GPS/Fishfinder for the 3rd time (complete failure twice / a good reason to buy from West Marine for they stand behind their products).  The small Albacore you saw was the fish / while small, it was in fact the 3rd fish caught this season and he is in 3rd place in the tournament.  The fact is, fish are being caught and this is the time we have been all patiently waiting for.  50 Miles offshore seems to be a bit of a stretch with my Kayak yet the onshore activity has certainly caught my attention.  I'm not looking for much; just a 2000# Halibut and a call to the Coast Guard for a Tow to the Harbor.

If the water and weather holds, Ill be on them albies next next weekend. Polepole are you here next weekend? Doug would have run today but it was his anniversary today, and his WAF account is seriously overdrawn...
Now to steer this thread towards a truly yack nature. On the right day with the right conditions we may have a shot at them, from land in the Carmel Canyon. from the chart it looks like a 2 to 2.5 mile paddle to the 150 fathom mark. Many years ago we got them really close to Monterey harbour we were only a few miles from land and had not yet cleared the point (Pinos, i think its called). Has anyone inquired about local party boat mothership ventures? I'm thinking of talking to Tom of Hulict fame (HMB).Hes an out of the box thinking kinda guy besides being one of the most skilled, nicest captains around.

That was probably me and a friend. If both boats had safety flags, that was us. She wanted to paddle mostly, so we only got in a little bit of fishing. Had a couple of takedowns in the kelp near the lighthouse, but nothing landed.
