Easy launch, lots of fog in the early hours, and the fish were elusive on Friday. But if you can't catch lots of fish, you might as well catch one great big one!
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

That is an awesome looking ling! What was the total length? That one fish sure makes up for a slow day on the water. What were you using to entice that monster? Congrats!

Great work TP!  What did you get her on?  I almost asked about the dimensions, but I saw the name of the photo. :smt004

That fish bit on a large silver/blue single tail swimbait, maybe six or seven inches, on a two ounce leadhead. I won't fish those bigger swimbaits except where I expect to find bigger fish. Measured about thirty six inches...

Caught in 35 or forty feet of water, a bit south of the launch. Funny though, I caught lots of fish the week before in some now familiar places. Friday, we had to work for any fish, and I was fortunate to take this one home with me. Fishing is pretty mysterious some times.

Nice one Paul! I was surfing up here in Bodega on friday so I can only imagine it must have been pretty rough down there at the bean. Good job!   Jim/redyak

After you left, Paul, I had two nice hookups in the same area.  One was something large that grabbed my swimbait and sat on it...  thought it was a snag but I felt a little give, then a massive headshake and then heartbreak as I felt a little pop and nothing....

Then a bit later I hooked a ling in like 14 feet of water at the top of a pinnacle and he ran like a freight train for deeper water.  Had to chase him down to avoid the rocksnag scenario.  It was not my biggest ling at 10lbs, but by far the best fight from my kayak so far.

Adam got a ling and a cab, too, and ChuckE got a couple too, but it was pretty slim pickins on the usual rockfish.

Hey TallPaul,  :smt006 I know the feeling, one good fish makes up for a slow day. That would have been a nice one to catch on Aug. 2 great looking ling, did he put up a good fight?
