A cheap craft hot knife/wood burning tool worked well when I cut & modified a crate. It did eventually come apart at the welds but that was 3 years' use later & I'd moved on to another box. Just be sure to have plenty of ventilation when you are melting the plastic.
If you want to modify a box I think Tote has a write up on trimming the corners of a plano box on here somewhere...

What about the Plano 1812-50 it's 8" wide and 13.5" long.

Yes I work in a bodyshop and tried to fuse the milk crate together with a small butane torch but some plastics dont like to weld to themselves. I was trying to use an open top crate to put some rod and net holders in the corners with some plastic pipe and hose clamps. I found a small crate that will work but it is only 7in wide. What is hard for me to believe that with all the interest in kayak fishing the last 10 years Ocean Kayak has not made something that fits. Oh well thanks for the hints, Craig

Hi Yaker:

I like Johns' setup on his Scupper Pro TW. I think you may buy Crates at Target.
