Are both of these systems adaptable to any kayak, or just certain makes?

Is a rudder a must on a kayak equipped with a feet drive system?

Thank you.

The Mirage drive (w/ or w/o Turbo fins) will only work with Hobie kayaks with the drive well.  There's probably one or two exceptions to this...  I do remember someone making a kayak out of wood with the Mirage drive.  In general terms, if you want to use the drive system, get a hobie.  Don't cut a huge hole in the floor of your yak!  :)

A rudder is mandatory.  Without  the rudder it doesn't go straight...

A mirage drive w/o a rudder is like an engine in a car w/o a steering wheel.

Can a person buy a brand-new adventure with the turbo-fins and sailing rudder ?  or would i have to buy those separately at additional costs?

Pretty sure they are additional purchases.  I don't have the sailing rudder but my turbo fins were purchased separately.  Although granted, I did buy the pair a year and a half ago, things may have changed.

Now I just need to swap out the standard fins for the turbo's. :smt012   They are just sitting in my garage. :smt011

This was discussed recently on the Hobie forum and they are additional purchases. If you decide to make that purchase(s) you shoula always ask for a discount. 10% pays forthe sales tax+.
