Wife & I headed to a beach immediately south of Sunset St. beach, she read and watched the dolphins & seals I got wet looking for some BSP.  I actually landed one, my first one!  Cute little bugger maybe 6"
I tried a rod & reel combo I got many years ago, the rod is 10' surf rod, (Bass Pro Shops) Medium heavy, and the reel is a plain ol' shakespear spin, I got it for a deal! reg $69, but it wasn't in a box, so when I got to the counter the gal gave it to me for $19 and 10% off that, so I got the thing for $17.
Anyhow, it's loaded with 20# (little overkill for BSP I know) but this combo allowed me to launch my little grub out past the break!  My last rod & reel, I couldn't do that.

How was the sea weed?  It was horrible in the monterey bay on Friday, salad everywhere.
Good luck and tight lines.

Water was clear.  No patches anywhere in sight.  I landed that little guy right out behind the photo.

Nice Report I need to get out there and do that again soon.

I am no expert when it comes to BSP but I have had best luck getting them in close in the white wash.

Motor oil grub on a Carolina rig works well, so does Berkeley gulp and live grass shrimp and soft shelled sand crabs. They get 3+ lbs out there.

That little guy grabbed my grub in the white water, as my grub was dragged back in (southward) by the waves/ current.   Unfortunately, it was the only one, no more hits.  It was nice to finally land one though.
