Went out for my last two days of summer vacation on the Delta to chase down big bass.  I was armed with some new frog-ideas and techniques from XSquid (thanks).  I knew I was on the right stuff when my first frog fish was a 10 incher...then moments later a 1-2 pound keeper.

I came to a good point on the tule island and tossed the frog about 5 inches deep between two tules.  I brought it out nice and easy, a few twitches, and just as it cleared the edge of the tules...WHAM!  She just crushed it.  After a few jumps, head shakes, and drag peeling runs, she was in the net!  A quick picture, then on the scale she went, measuring out at 7 pounds 11 ounces (pic 1).  Later I went back and checked out that spot at a low minus tide, and it had a gnarly log sitting next to the tules which was completely underwater by two or three feet when she ambushed it.  Hmmmm, could that be a pattern??

I got a few more on the frog, and missed a few too.  My frog was ripped and torn (my only one in that color), and I only had one more hit on a different color frog the rest of the day.  I called the tackle store from the yak and ordered two more in the good color.

I got the rest of my fish with cranks or worms on the weed edges.  My last fish was also a nice big one...5 pounds 12 ounces (pic 3) caught on a crankbait off a deep weed edge.

Today, my frogs that I picked up from the store continued to be the right stuff, minus the big fish.  I got two keepers on it, and missed several others.  I also was getting a good hits with the frog from under the cheese (moss mats).

Now back to school, and bye-bye to mid-week fishing  :smt010

Nice job Bryan!  I need some of that mojo.  I have been having problems out there.  Any advice on frog colors?  I have an all black one w/ yellow eyes and it has been ignored.

Are you fishing this weekend?  I might be going out.  I HAVE to get some skunk off somehow.  PM me if you get a chance.  I could use some advice on lure selection, etc.  I tried everything last weekend without one nibble.

Anyway, awesome post, again.  It's only a matter of time before you get the double digit!

Nice fish dude, fat!!!  Great way to close out the summer schedule.  Think of the bright side, working for the man will pay for all the frogs you are destroying!

Thanks all.

Sumo--I fish black frogs or white frogs.  Whiter has been better lately.  The Black and yellow combo is a good one too.  I also downgraded from 65 pound to 50 pound braid, that has helped get more open water bites for sure.

Jim--I was over in the eastern part, near Lodi.  Whites, Disappointment, Paradise Cut.  Those sloughs.
