The bite on Tomales Bay is wide open right now. Halibut limits are being brought in by fisherman working from Hog Island all the way out to the "Bar". Drifters and trollers are hooking up using live bait and flashers w/ frozen anchovies. Launching is limited on the bay with two good spots, for fishing Hog Island area use Miller Park launch ramp aka Nick's Cove, it's 5 dollars for the day use. If you want to fish the Sand Bar launch out of Lawson's Landing, I believe it is 10 dollars for a day use and just hand launch your yaks so you don't have to pay the launch fee. I never have paid for hand launching so it should be o.k.
As a reminder, there is a Halibut Derby running out of Miller Park on the 9th, look in the events section for more info. hope to see some of you there,

was just wondering if the halibut derby was just for kayak fishing or if its open to boats as well?  I caught my first kayak halibut on sat.  near cypress point. the south end of the bay has also been very productive but the wind has been picking up by mid morning for the last week or two.

Jim,
I've finally found the derby info on fishsniffer and was hoping to find out what the prizes are?  There is no preregistration is there?  If not, is there any way of knowing how many will show up for this?

JTF, I've been getting calls and emails from several anglers interested in attending, it sounds like quite a few so far are interested and some have committed. I have over 800 dollars in prizes to give out for the classes so far and am still trying to get more as we speek. Hope you can make it, I'll be there friday night setting up and staying in my trailer so I don't have to get up too early. If you have more Q's just give me a call at the number below in my signature,
