Trip Report Iron Canyon Reservoir

Location :

Hwy 299 from Redding to Montgomery Creek, Just past Montgomery Creek Turn Left on Big Bend Road, go approx 14 miles to Big Bend, follow signs from Big Bend for six miles to Iron Canyon Reservoir (note: out of big bend the signs indicate straight go right coming back in the same place go left.
Turn off at Hawkins Campgrounds. There are about 10 campsites, sites #1, 2, 3 and 4 are nearest the water (about 30 yards) and easy trails to wheel a Kayak to the water.
The Lake fluctuates about four feet at times leaving a slick red clay bank at about a 10% grade. (snow on roads in the winter). It is a great place to Kayak and Fish.

Fishing:

Rainbows and browns (Note: the rainbows have external parasites that are easily scrubbed off if you want to eat them.) ( I don’t eat the skin on those). The Browns are clean so far

Thanks for the info on the camping.  Sounds like a great place.  Is that close to Trinity Lake?  Sounds like the same neighborhood....

Nice work! I love catching those browns. Hope to see you again at Bendo at Mendo this fall.  :smt006
