Just came back from a great fishing trip in the afternoon.  The Halibut are stacked in front of Richmond and the wind and tide were perfect for kayaks.  We caught our fish and watched Golden Eye 2000 and California Dawn pick at the fish non stop until they had to leave at around 5:00pm today.  This is easily within kayak range and I thought you guys should know.  This was a late afternoon bite and should be the same tomorrow.  We didn't find the spot until 3pm and fished until 6pm for limits.

We used live bait and so should you but trolling has worked in the past and may work again.  Golden Eye was hooking up non stop in the late afternoon from 3-5pm when they had to leave.  This is right in front of the Richmond break water and can easily be fished by kayaks.  Just launch from Point Richmond where Adam launches.  You should paddle towards South Hampton about a 1/4 mile out from the mouth of the Richmond break wall and drift toward the Chevron Pier.  If I didn't have a prior commitment, I would go again tomorrow.

Good Luck  if you can make this trip.

Luis

Ya, It's about as easy and nice of a launch you will find,  I wish I could get back out there, but a I'm a little under the weather at the moment...

I have been seeing more boats work this area, kinda Bums me, Butt what are ya going to do,

Did that 20lb+ Butt come from that area?

 Nice Fishy,

Here's a pic of the launch, if this won't draw you to it, what will?

What a difference a day makes!  Today is a 180 from yesterdays weather and that makes it a no-go for kayaks.

That was one of the fish for the day and it came from Richmond.  The other guys took their fish before I could take a picture.  We picked up a BIG one close to 30-40 near red rock but all the other fish were picked up in front of the South Hampton / Richmond area .  That fish could have taken the Coastside/WON tournament but he did not participate in the tournament.  This is an exclusive report that I did not post at Coastside because I thought it was a rare moment when the Halibut were stacked so close to a marina and within range of kayak fisherpeople.  I got so excited about the hot fishing, I called Duane to let him know because I know he has the strenght to fight the tides and fish that area.

We traveled around the bay yesterday starting at Angel Island, Red Rock, Loch Lomond, Paradise, Angel Island, Treasure Island, Emeryville, Berkeley, then South Hampton / Richmond.

I think the Striped bass have left the bay and are now in the beaches.  They were missing everywhere we looked inside the bay.  The guys I was with were chicken to go out to Seal Rock and Ocean Beach.

Good luck to all at ELK.
