So another good day at Fort Ross with a limit of rockfish for myself and a friend from the lab (Jason Herum).  He's a local guy that deck hands for Rick Powers every once in a while.  Jason also had two lings 26' and 28'.  I had a weird day, catching 6 china rockfish the largest to 15 inches.  I have never caught that many china's in one day.  The fishing was off and on and pretty patchy.  The baitfish where thick.  I sabiki'd a mackerel and several topsmelt, but no lings for me???? :smt013.  The jellyfish and green water was making me itch for salmon.  Guys on the radios from saltpoint where reporting catching salmon while fishing for rockfish.  All and all another fun day kayak fishing.  God I love this sport.!

Hey Jim! Was it you that said this was the year of the baitfish? Out of Albion I caught huge sardines today, amongst other assorted baitfish. The birds were working just out of reach...
Thanks for your post.

Nice report Jim, let me know next time your going to Ft. Ross, I'm in Windsor but usually fish more north off 128.

As for the bait/wind/upwelling seen this year, this is just what the doctor ordered for salmon, adult AND juvenile (which hang more nearshore then go north).  As a fisheries (salmon) biologist this is great news!

And another great report from the Fort.  Thanks for the report and great pics.  And even more the continued good news regarding the upwelling and bait proliferation!!
