I'm a newbie and want to get for those long trip a light weight paddle with great quality for fishing.  So far I only know about Adventure Technology"s Fishstix paddle.  I need words of wisdom!  :smt001  Thanks!

I have a couple of them. Bent shaft and straight shaft. For fishing, I recommend the straight shaft. These paddles are expensive, but you can use them for hours without getting tired.

I really like werner paddles. They're pricey, but I still regularly use a werner 2 piece that is probably 15 years old, and it was a rental paddle before I got it, so they do last.
If you are using a metal shaft paddle, anything fiberglass will probably be an upgrade. Lighter than that you'll be looking at carbon fiber & some serious $. I did test paddle with a carbon fiber werner camano a couple of seasons ago and it was a nice paddle, for sure.

Thanks!  Can fiberglass be abused more then a carbon fiber?  Just wondering how easliy carbon fiber paddles can be damaged since it is lighter, also what about sun damage too?

I've not done a side by side comparison for durability, but I would think that the fiberglass would be a little more rugged. If you think you'll be using the paddle hard (think of the abuse rental paddles take) then fiberglass would probably be best. The carbon paddles are nice, but you end up paying a lot to shave an ounce or two.

I know it cost more.  I think I'll keep shoping for something light but rugged and not carbon fiber paddles.

http://www.lendal.com/touring/kinetik/

I've used Werner and swift paddles in the past. Found the Varilok lendal 4 piece system and never looked back (I use the kinetic Touring S blades to go with the shaft).

The advantage of the Lendal system is that you can replace the blades when they wear out and still keep the original shaft. You basically don't need to buy an entire new paddle after you wear 'em out :smt002

Just my 2 cents...
