the trident models have some great things about them. the large center hatch is genius. my problem with oc boats is that the hulls are too thin and don't hold their shape well. i went to a oc sale where they had the boats up on sawhorses. when i rolled the boat over to look at the hull there was 2 big creases in the hull matching the shape of the sawhorses. i like the wilderness systems tarpons much better. i believe the hull design is stronger and has better hydrodynamics. i also like the search 15 by perception although i have not paddled one yet.

I don't believe keeping your kayak on sawhorses is recommended by any manufacturer.  But you're right, the Ocean Kayak plastic does seem to be different from some of the other kayak brands and I'm not sure why that is.

One thing to note however, I think OK is the only company out there now offering kayaks made of recycled plastic.

I think I'd be a little uncomfortable paddling a boat made out of recycled plastic offshore...
