Launched @ 8 a.m. in thick, thick fog.  The fog was so thick some commercial fisherman crashed his boat into the Morro Bay jetty yesterday, the boat sank.

There has been swell lately & good sized swell at that.  Surf was head-high plus the first part of the week. I knew it makes for poor fishing but I had the time to go so I gave it a shot.

Fished in 30-90 FOW & all I caught were 2 stinkin' Gophers!  I even started to feel pretty queasy as there were no horizons & the swell was still up.  Today was supposed to be the smallest day for surf &  the wind cooperated, was mostly light south to no wind.  There was a TON of jellyfish in the water & a ton of baitfish, guessing anchovies.  They were all over the place on the inside, on the outside, everywhere.  Seals where all over as well probably feeding on the chovies.

I ended up going about a mile out in thick fog but thanks to my handy dandy GPS & the sound of Trash Trucks & some guys cutting down a tree I always knew which way was where.  The sound was weired at some times & did seem to come from multiple directions.  The swell was also very consistently going in the same direction.

Better luck next time, I'm going to think twice about fishing in these conditions again, I feel woosey & my computer seems to be moving for some reason...maybe it's me.

Good day to have a working GPS, I hope you have a compas as well......just in case the batteries die and the tree trimming stops...... :smt002

Those kind of conditions can be very disorienting, but I think still worth it if you are prepared.......

Nice pic, love the shot of the commercial boat in the rocks, hopefully he had good insurance.

i always carry a compass & most importantly in conditions like that I take a bearing before I launch. the coast zigs & zags here & north isn't where you think it is.

The fog does make it kinda creepy, my worry is not so much getting back but getting run over by a PB.  The commercial fishing boat for example.

sorry to hear even the gopher plague wasnt hot PJ

Bummer. Hope things get better by Sunday. The fog does make sea sickness more likely. Might want to consider transderm scopalamine.

forcast from Wetsand.com;

"Northern California and the Central Coast are seeing sets running chest high+ at most west facing breaks, waist high at south facing spots.

Thursday the 10th wind swell picks back up again to head high for west facing breaks able to work the steep 310+. South facing breaks are looking at waist to chest high wrap.

Friday the 11th the wind swell comes to its peak with similar size, possibly a 10-15% increase.

Saturday the 12th the NW backs off to chest high max for west facing breaks, smaller for south facing spots.

Sunday the 13th looks smaller yet with most all breaks dropping into the waist high zone by the looks of things today."

maybe it's time to sabiki up a few anchovies, put them on two shrimpfly hooks and send them down!

when the fog lifts that is.  fog sucks even worse than wind. at least with wind you can huck out a drift chute and hunker down.

So Sunday is the day?  I wonder if sc X factor is back? I am down for some sunday fishing I think.

Great report of a tough day.  Love that launch shot - that looks so Lost Coast, especially lately.  Nice work with the GPS on the solo fog trek.

Ramon,

I believe they opened it up to residents only today.  If you go to the link below & type in "1" you'll get current conditions.  I posted the current report.  I believe LK is within current closure area. The smoke isn't really that bad here today, I heard one day last week was horrible, the week before there were some bad days but it seems to be improving.

 [IN THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AREA]
HWY 1 IS CLOSED FROM 18.8 MI SOUTH TO 25.7 MI NORTH OF PFEIFFER BURNS STATE PARK
(MONTEREY CO) - DUE TO A WILDLAND FIRE - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN
ALTERNATE ROUTE

J.,

It's not worth coming here right now, hopefully conditions will improve or the Cap Du Nord will open up. I'm itching to go back there!!!

PJ -

If you look at this site looks like the road to LK is open. Regardless of whether it is open, I will be fishing somewhere north of the White Rock SMCA on Sunday.
