Greetings,

I was helping B-A-R-F setup a universal kayak mount kit on this G35 Sedan and realized that we could not complete the task without damaging his car.  It appears that the weight of the kayak caused the roof of this car to cave in.  We're thinking it is because the car is equipped with a sunroof and the area is hollowed out/less reinforced.  Had we decided to continue we could probably use the newly created depression as a live bait well.

G35 + Foam Blocks + P15 = 0

I used to pucker the roof on my J30 all the time.  The outer metal sheet has a lot of elasticity.

Mike, are you putting the blocks as close as possible to the front & rear windows and it's still buckling? If so, I guess you're S.O.L. but if not, move them as far forward & back as possible to get them on the frame supports.

All car roofs are kind of hollow but there's somewhat of cage a around the edges.

Anyway, if it doesn't work out, maybe he can just stick the kayak in the sunroof - just watch those low overpasses... :smt005

There is a simple, yet costly solution to this problem.  Buy a truck... LOL.  They built cars outta recycled soda cans these days.  Body panels used to be so much thicker, now you can wrinkle the metal on the door just giving it a little shove to close it... I know that light=effecient, but com'on.

Yeah-was going to say.  And its not costly.  If you have a G35 (sedan I assume) you can get a 4 door Tacoma (used) and a rack and still have money left over from the sale of the G35.  Will it be as posh- no.  Will it haul stuff better?  Hell Yeah!
