The recent high temps and lack of wind combined to spark a great bite this morning.  Launched at 6:00 and had the first fish to the boat less than a minute later.  The buzzbait bite was out of control, landed seven including a seven pounder.  Soon the sun was up and it got hotter than hell out there.  I switched to the senko and got a couple in the tules.  Then I targeted shady banks under trees and scored a couple of 3 pounders with the frog.  I found some nice looking mats that were sporting holes in them.  I picked up some nice frog fish from the mats, mostly close to the bank by the "blow holes".  Ended the day at 2:00 with 18 to the boat, 14 on topwater!

Awesome report!  I really wanted to hit the delta this weekend, but I am having foot trouble so Im stuck in the house.  I bet it's a lot nicer out there without waves crashing over the bow!  :smt044

Way to go Kevin!  I'm glad you had a great day...you were overdue for a day like that.

I have never fished the Delta but it looks like a great time!  Where do you launch your yak?  Are there PBs in the area too?  Are the currents strong?

Thanks,
Martin

Thanks, it always seems like the banner days happen when I don't have a fishing buddy/witness!  As for your question, bennettdanville, the delta is usually a great time.  There are conditions that make it a bit challenging though.  Wind and current are almost always a factor.  It is wise to check the tide and weather forcast to help plan your travel.  Other boaters are always present as well.  It is not a problem if you always keep an eye on your surroundings and try not to cross a chanel past a blind curve.  I can hear them coming and tend to head close to a bank till they pass.  It is also the reason that my yaks are all bright colors.  As for launch locations, there is a great thread in the "places to launch/camp" section of this site.  I use that as well as a delta fishing map giving locations of marinas and fishing hot spots.  Whiskey slough would be a good place to start, it has a wide ramp and is a dead end channel as well.  Once you get comfortable, there are hundreds of launches and banks that give good fishing access.
