Hey Guys, long time no post.  Actually haven't been doing much fishing  :smt011 this year with all the flooding going on in iowa.  but this weekend i had a good story i thought i should share.

i was fishing some back-waters on the wapsipinican river 5 miles from my place for bass.  i was using 4 lb test and casting a 2" deep diving rapala.  after catching a few decent bass I hooked into something big.  battled this guy for a few minutes and saw next to the yak what turned out to be a 31" 7 lb pike  :smt007 - AKA freshwater lingcod.

i still am in amazement that i got the damn thing home but like i said, i was using 4 lb line, had no net so i grabbed him around the head (don't want to lip those guys) and got him in my lap.  also lacking from my boat was a fish beater.  i looked in my boat for something heavy and all i could come up with was my 12V lead-acid fish finder battery.  so there i was, beating a giant pike with my fish finder battery still attached to the FF.  but hey, them pike are darn tastey.

greg, fine work, if it makes you feel any better, BH has been quiescent due to cold water and the fish feeding on krill and ignoring anything other than a shrimpfly.

Lexington is closed, and the other lakes are off limits because of some mussel invasion.

big sur was good, but it is on fire now (in a bad way), and salmon is closed.

the halibut are biting, but you know how easy they are to catch,  :smt009.

short story, unless you like fried anchovies (which turned out to be surprisingly good), you ain't missing much!

anyways if you ever get back here I got a few spare kayaks, rods and more lures than I will ever use in my lifetime.

John,

next time i am out there i will definately be taking you up on the offer.  kayak fishing for lingzilla at the bean is the thing i miss most about CA after moving to iowa; traffic being the least missed.  love that bean, never know what you'll bring up!
