Hi All-I'm new to this site but not to fishing.  Just curious if anyone ever kayaked the high sierra lakes, Big Bear Reservoir, Alpine, Crystal, Capels, etc.  Pasted by them this weekend but their still frozen over.  I dropped down to Topaz Lake in Nevada and the place was loaded with shore fisherman, small fishing boats, rubber dingies, and even a few kayaks.  I never fished any of those lakes before, but now that I'm getting more vacation time they've got my attention.  I purchased a small WS T 100 kayak last summer to fit in my short bed Toyota.  Would have bought a little Mini-X but couldn't find one at the time.  Maybe get one later down the road for the grandson.    Thankx

I will be fishing the ice-out at Caples Lake this year... that will probably be the weekend after Memorial day, give or take a week... best time to fish that lake is when it is still 50% iced in, with big bergs floating about... troll a big X-rap along the shallow shoreline where not obstructed with ice and hang on, because Mr. Brown is in town... the area over where the creek from Emigrant Lake enters is not my super secret ice-out hotspot....

When I head up there I will post a hook-up invite...

This summer I also intend to chase macks +/or kokes in Donner and Tahoe, and maybe even check out Stampede.

I know those lakes quite well.

Bear River is iced out but the gate is still closed. Silver is two weeks and 4 days away in my predictions. Caples is 9 days after that. :smt002

Once the snow melts off the other lakes it is 2 -3 days. I will keep everyone posted. I catch more brown from caples but bigger macs from silver. I have fished ice out on silver for several years. J7 silver and black rapalla trolled at 4 -5 mph is a hot way to fish it. Think I am nuts about the speed....just try it.

Macs, bang the bottom, bang the bottom and go sssssslllloowwww. Gotta hit the lakes before the first plant for the big fish. Once they plant the fish gorge themselves and it gets harder to land a biggie.

New Spicer Reservoir has to be heaven! I understand that Utica/Union are quite nice, too. Caples and Silver have been on my list of places to visit. I would jump at the chance to join a hookup at a Sierra lake or two.

I enjoy twin lakes in Bridgeport, I believe lower twin lakes has 5 mph speed limit, no crowds, also nice stream fishing with easy access.  not far away is june lake loop, 5 or 6 lakes, on I think a 9 mile loop. Lundy lake also with nice trout in the area. You can also camp at Lee Vining Canyon, pretty much centrally located near all fishing in area. Great areas, but even better in oct nov, pretty much no crowds! Eastern Sierras rule!!!!

Ive kayaked Alpine a few times and fished it. Last trip was great. It gets windy there, but well worth it!
