Clearly the Basst

Got a chance to fish Clear Lake today. First time on that water. Stopped in at Lakeshore Bait and talked to the owner Bob, nice guy. He told me where to launch, right down the street, and sold me my first bag of Watermelon Senkos and weedless hooks.

Put in at Redbud Park, a great public ramp, and paddled out north a few hundred yards to fish the pipeline and island Bob suggested. Spent the first hour trying the lures I brought, shad rap, spinner baits, top water lures all to no avail.

Finally I tied on a Senko for the first time, and on my second cast - BAM fish on!

Now I'm all pumped up! My first decent sized bass, and on the Yak to boot!
I fish and paddle around the area for a couple more hours fishing docks and other structure, catching 8 more 2 to 4lbs. all released.
I'm feeling like one of those pro bass guys just nailing fish left and right.

Heck, I even smashed the barb down on my hook after seeing some pretty damaged fish mouths. I can't say that I'll do that again though as later I got into my biggest fish of the day 7 - 9lbs., a dang hawg for me. As I fumbled for my camera, the brute shook free about 4 ft. from the yak! Pretty darn exciting for a dink catcher like myself.

Nice work on the Clear Lake Bass in the yak...I'll bet that big guy was a fun battle.
