Here's the marine forecast for mendo this weekend:

SAT
W WIND 5 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS. MIXED SWELL...NW
4 FT AND SW 3 FT.

SUN
SW WIND 5 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS. MIXED SWELL...NW
4 FT AND SW 3 FT.

I'm going to hit Elk if the forecast holds true.  Death march anyone?

I could do Elk Monday as well, though i am not as familiar as I am with the two spots on the post i just made (Van Damme and Caspar).

hey Doug and Norm,

Went out at elk today.  I'm not sure it was worth the effort.  I got a limit of blues and blacks, but not much else.  The outgoing tide was really wrong.  The fishing was OK, but its a bunch of work.  I could see fish on the finder, but they wouldn't cooperate.

I'm game to go out Monday, but I can't get out real early as I have to stop in at work.  Diving or fishing or both is good with me.

I know Elk, Caspar, and Van Damme pretty well, so it all good for me.  Meet somewhere at 11:00 if you're interested?

Shoot, Elk is usually epic.

Hey Dave and Doug,

I am flexible as I am just starting a long vacation.  With the forcast, I would guess that mid day will be just as nice as early AM, so 11:00 would work for me, how about you Doug?  If you wanted to start earlier Doug we could do a dive first then come back in and meet up with Dave to do some fishing after that.  I vote for Van Damme for mid day as the launching conditions should be nice mid day.  Let me know whatever works for the two of you.

Did you dive Elk?  The abs usually make the butt kicker hill worth the effort.

I dived Van Damme last weekend.  Saw three Orcas playing in the fringe of the kelp bed just south of the keyhole rock.  The kelp is really thick at Van Damme.  On a low tide it really makes finding quality abs tough.  I had to go out of the bay into 20'-25' which is deeper than I like to dive.  Got a limit of 8"s but nothing  big.  We got limits of blues and gophers.  Got one ling right on the mark at 24".  I was in my new yak and I didn't have a tape, just marks on the net handle.  I let him go and avoided the stress of having a warden make the call.  I was glad I did--I got checked in the parking lot.

Casper sounds good to me.  I haven't dived it in about two years and I have never fished out of Caspar.   I will know tonight if I can go.  Where are you coming from?  I'm in Livermore.

I am coming from Windsor, so it only takes me just under 2 hours to get up to Caspar.  The place I have been diving there is just off the beach.  Like i mentioned, it is an overlooked area as the other obvious stuff is heavily picked.  I always manage a limit of 8+ types within 100 yards of the beach.  Dive first off the beach then paddle outside for some fishing?

Let me know what you guys think, recieved a free pass for the day from the fam, so whatever works for you.....

Hey you guys,

I'm a local, so diving is no big deal for me.  if you want to get out for snails earlier, then meet up to fish, that works for me.  Meet at Caspar at 11:00 ?

Van Damme is fine too.

Argh!  I wish I was closer to you guys...  I'm sitting up here looking at some flat-ass water.  I'm thinking of going to the Cape Tuesday afternoon if anyone's game.   :smt001

Doug is going to call me later this evening to let me know if he can go for sure or not.  Doug wanted to give Caspar a try and I think the plan would be to dive first from the beach and then go out and fish outside the cove, so if you wanted to hook up there at 1100 Dave to head out for fish, I think that would be perfect.

Eric,
I'd love to come up and give the cape a try, but can't go that far Tuesday.  If you want to hook up next week though, maybe Monday or Tuesday, I could do it then....I am off for the next 6 weeks and will be doing a few other trips with the fam during that time, but will be around here and there.

Hey Dave,

Forgot to mention, I will give you a call later this evening after Doug calls to confirm or not.  If Doug can't come, I'll just sleep in and meet you at 11.
