I've been doing Lake Beryessa lately. Averaging 12 LMB and SMB per trip. Nothing spectacular though... 1 pound class. For me, the good thing is I nail them all on my fly rod. The bad thing is the weekend crowd, PBs, and jet skis. That's why I go out on my Monday day-offs. The lake is all for myself. Today, I am staying at home to building up my WAF account (for all of you who don't have one to maintain, lucky you!, that is... on the WAF-sense).

With practically no winds, I was out at the SF Bay San Leandro/Oakland Airport area yesterday (~7am) for my first butt hunt. The weather was fine early morning but the tide (ebb) wasn't that good. Water was too murky too; could be due to the previous windy days. Anyway, I got 4 sharks, 2 rays, and 2 juvenile butt. Though I don't keep them, it's fun catching the sharks and rays. They fight hard! My arms were sored. I got them drifting with frozen anchovies. No luck on trolling swim baits and X-Raps. Called it a-day around 11am.

Way to go, putting in your time and having a fun day catching, not *just* fishing!  You might want to fix the tittle though ;)  Seems a lil' x-rated!

Hey LL

You did better than my last t butt hunts. BTW, you can catch them with a fly rod, sink tip line and a clouser. Used to fish them from the shore when I when I lived in SCAL.

Now THAT sounds x-rated!!! :smt044  :smt044

Way to give it a go. Glad you had some decent conditions instead of the pounding wind that has all but shut down the rockfishing.

Hey Scott,

Thanks for the thought. I believe you can with better chances on low turbidity. I had with me my 8wt rod with 330gr integrated line and a bunch of clousers/deceivers but the water was just too murky I didn't even try throwing my fly.  Ken Hanley has some good tips on salt water fly fishing. Check it out.
