Most of you with a P13 or P15 know the Plano box doesn't quite fit in the space behind the seat. To remedy the problem I compared the Plano 1612 to the Flambeau 1408. They are almost identical in size with the same features. However, the Flambeau has rounded corners and tapers a little more allowing it to fit perfectly into the slot behind the seat.

I added a 3-pole holder purchased from West Marine. I had to trim the bottom corners off the pole holder bracket (does not effect performance) so it would fit properly (see photo). The rod leashes are made from old cell phone car chargers. Custom KZ Gaff taking center stage :smt003. I will be using Totes idea of using an anchor shackle on each eyelet. Great idea Tote  :smt023  Hope you don't mind that I borrowed your photo :smt002. Check it out:

Nice, where did you get the Flambeau at?  I may have to check my local Walmart and West Marine.  I was going to get the Plano, but would much rather have a box which fits the Prowler.  I also like Totes double clip idea.  I will have to do that on mine as well.

Ben -

This is a nice discovery. I always thought the space was designed to wedge the Plano 1612 in tight as part of how it is secured. Then when I got my Trident, it was clear it was a design error or the space was desiged for another box. Since I don't move the box on the water, being wedged in doesn't bother me and the extra height holds my rods more securely since I use 14 inch rear grips, all that said the Flambeau box makes more sense, although I can't say the color isn't great, IMO.  :smt005

Check around at your local sporting good stores, that's where I got mine. You can also order on line: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=435338

I can't comment on the Flambeau, but as to the Plano: keep in mind that their waterproof box comes in three sizes and at least a couple of colors (white and orange, definitely). It's highly unlikely you'll find a place that has all three sizes, or a full choice of colors, even online, but there are some choices out there if you're willing to hunt (and wait) for them.

I have seen the Flambeau at several K-marts, in at least two colors.

Nice find Ben. It looks like a perfect fit for the Prowlers/Tridents.

I haven't seen the Flambeau at Fisherman's Warehouse... but trust me, I'm in there often enough (*ah hem*) "supporting" them that (1) I would have noticed, and (2) the FAF (fiancee approval factor) is inversely proportional to my frequent support of Fisherman's Warehouse.    :smt044

Go figure...   :beer2

I kind of like that gap beneath the Plano box.  I stash flares and other stuff down there.  After I saw Sean's leader holder inside the box, I was thinking of making a flare holder for underneath it.

I recommend convincing the fiancee to register at Fishermans Warehouse rather than the usual boring, crate/barrel, macys, etc.   :smt003

That will never happen... fishing bores her... but she does like to shoot & hunt, and she bought me a safe two years ago and told me to "have fun filling it"... I've got to choose my battles, and the fact that she doesn't mind me collecting guns like she collects shoes makes up for her insensitivity regarding my penchant for fishing.
