Hi all,

I am new to kayak fishing and  it looks like I'm going to
need a lot of help. I have already taken some safety
class and I am dying to go out and fish in my new
kayak. I live in Vallejo so maybe I can meet someone
close by.

Thanks in advanced

Welcome to the board, Jed.  There are lots of great people here who love to share knowledge and Good Times.  You'll get plenty of advice on specifics if you ask, but you should probably start by using the search up there in the right corner of the page and look for past threads on installing fishfinders.

Good luck and have fun!   :smt001

Welcome aboard Jed,

Congratulations on your new obsession. If info is what your after just read on... check out the rigged kayak section. You'll find everything needed in there, also check out Hook1, again you'll find a lot of info available to you.

Installing a fish finder is super easy...the thought of poking a hole in your new $1,000 kayak can be unsettling, but don't worry, if you've done your homework everything will be fine... Just go for it!

The biggest thing will be the transducer...do you glue it down?, or use a water jar?, or a Vaseline filled puck? I've done them all and currently use the water...Although you should know that I've just ordered the fourth option........... A Hummingbird Thur Hull Transducer.

Best of luck to you with ever way you decide to go. Shoot us some pic of your new ride.

Fish on!

Hi jedmo,

I live in Vallejo too and would be happy to help you install your fish finder. In fact, I have a couple rod holders to install on my boat too, so If you wanted we could get together for an afternoon of kayak work. Just PM me if you're interested.

Also, this might be helpful to you. It's the thread I posted after i did my fish finder install:

Good luck and welcome!

What Kayak do you have?
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Thanks Abking, slammer, and Fishin-Jay for responding. I really appreciate it.
First to answer mickfish question of what kayak I have. It is a Hobie mirrage
Outback. I choose this one because I was afraid that if I get too far out,
that I may not be able to get back if I get tired. I hope that makes sense.
I wonder if this kayak can go to the ocean like the ones I have seen in the
pictures with the NCKA gang. It seems the majority of kayaks I've seen out
on the ocean were the ocean kayak brand.
Fishin-Jay, how can I get a hold of you ? I haven't learned to use this board
properly. Sorry.

Thanks again in advance

Fishin-Jay, how can I get a hold of you ?

Hey Jed :smt006

Welcome. Here's a shortcut to send a PM to Fishin-Jay, click here http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=699
Type the message and send.

This is how you do it: click on (Fishin-Jay) above his photo. This will take you to his summary. Scroll to the bottom to (Additional Information) click on "Send this person a personal message" That's it. Hope this helps. You'll get the hang of it sooner than you think.

Good luck with your projects.
