Got a new WS Tarpon 160I and just put a Hummingbird 565 Fishfinder on it. Wanted to do something new with mounting the transducer (ducer). Putting it inside the kayak has worked fine in all my kayaks for almost 10 years now. The 565 has 640 pixles so I wanted to get the ducer in the water to give me the best performance. I made a bracket out of 1/8 aluminum.

This works great. If you can get your ducer in the water do so. Some kayak have scupper holes that can holed the ducer. Take a look at Kayak Fishing Blog for more on How-To make a bracket.

That is real cool. Forgive me I'm new to yak'n, but does it stay under water in that spot? I'm going to look at my P15 right now to see if it will work for me.

The external mounting is the best for sonar reception, but it leaves your transducer very exposed. Not that anyone here ever has a rough landing ,or has had a slippery yak take a tumble! :smt003 :smt013 :smt005 I know I'm guilty of it all.....

Yes there is a plug under the bracket. I don't ever use the plug so I sealed it with Goop.
I had a buddy tell me where the water line in the back of the kayak was when he was paddling along side of me.
So far I have only droped the T-160I maybe 3 times with this set up. :smt104 So far so good.
Thanks guys.

I made a gaurd that is just in front, that keeps the kelp and eel grass from getting hung up.
