Dad and I hit the bait dock early squeezing in with all the party boats, including the California Dawn, which I used to work on in high school when it was based down in Balboa.  Some great memories were made on that boat chasing WSB and YT around Catalina.

With a half scoop in the livewell (way too much bait) we headed out along the pier working our way towards the #3 Green channel marker. Drifting in 8 FOW about fifty yards west of the marker I get a nice tap and then a couple chovie shakes and a slow loading of the rod.  I quickly brought up a fiesty 20 incher, my first berkeley butt.  Went right back through the same spot and picked up another shorty, right around 20 inches.

Although the flattie bite fizzled with a few more short strikes and ripped baits we were not left without action.  We caught lots of little sharks, Dad got a ride from a big ray, and I had a slot sized sturgeon surface right under my tail.  The water was flat until around 11 and then started to blow and picked up a niced sized chop. Did not hear of many fish caught over the radio, did manage to catch danglin long enough to hear of his victory.(congrats again).  All in all a great day on the water.

Another Great day of fishing with Patrick. I was treated to my first  sleigh ride in months thanks to a huge ray, those things are a handful. The shark wrestling was a blast....even though my fingers were  sanded smooth during the encounters.

Congratulation Danglin on  halibut score. As we were drifting the pier on our way in we met up with "Fishinghank" one of NCKA's newer members..........hope you caught a whopper!

As Patrick wrote, the bay was flat until the wind machine started up and then the ride in was like being on a  slow mechanical bull.              Otobe........
