My Perception Search 15 has the built in rod holders behind the seat. My reels sit too close to the water when they rest in these holders. What can I put in the holders that will hold my reels higher above the water? I could probably use pvc but the holders are at a swept back angle. I want the rods to stand straight up so the reels are higher from the water (so the saltwater doesn't splash onto my reels. I have ridden rough water at Alameda and Clear Lake and the water was coming all the way over the boat.

The built in, flush mount rod holders used in Ocean Kayak's line have an end cap that mates with the bottom of this item from Scotty;

Then you need a RAM post adaptor to Scotty base coversion piece...

Finally, you can mount a RAM rocket launcher to the ball...

That's the $75 way to do it... you could also send InsaneDuane a PM and see what he thinks... Duane is the master fabricator when it comes to custom yakpimping and I'm sure he'll have a cheaper solution.  Check out his website for pimping how-to's...  http://www.fishingmasterbaiter.com/

You could also go the PVC route...determine what width tube you need, add a 45 degree elbow, and then another length of PVC to raise the reel as far as you want. I used such an arrangement (with a Scotty compact threaded mount attched) for my kayak. Haven't gotten around yet to posting pictures.

I did the OSH upgrade! It is a straight tube with a lip. Not as tough as PVC but will give a little. I built up the end to fit snug into the yak.
~ the blueball&bungie is used to put over the reel handle while paddling, so i don't knock it out.
~ I cut a notch in the lip to hold the reel seat.

I had the same problem and this sloved it. also spreaded my lines futher apart and making it easier to access the pole/reel because they are now lifted higher.

Maybe not for you, but it worked for me so far.
Hope this helped and or saved you time.
