Which one should I get, I fish only in the beautiful deep blue pacific so I need something that can work over a distance & work after being submerged.

Thanks In Advance.

I have a Uniden Voyager I think.  It was about a hundred bucks and is waterproof.  I also dropped an extra $20 on the pouch for additional protection.  I think the power on any of them is limited to about a 5 mile range - I could be wrong on that.

There's a few good threads on this topic that you might search and read.

It's an excellent piece of equipment for people who go on the ocean.  I feel that I should have had one long before I did.

I like the enthusiasm that's coming off you after your LK adventure.   :smt001

thanks abking.  it was an adventure.  after being there I'm already contemplating going back asap, it goes like this, "would I go out there by myself...if it was calm?...if I had a radio?...& on & on & on....!!!

before you know it i'll be towing a zodiac out there.

ps i liked your video from the other day, hilarious!

PJ -

I own the Uniden Voyager and if you can afford it get the one that comes with the NIMH battery. I think it costs $20 more but the battery case with the 6 AA batteries does leak when submerged and the NIMH battery lasts longer. I don't use a dry bag and you may have noticed that I take it off my PFD and put it in my Plano box for launchings and LANDINGS.  :smt044 I don't know if you have a west marine in SLO, but this weekend they have a VHF on sale for $80

Pj, I have A Cobra MRHH-325, all waterproof, nimh battery, submersible, all the bells and whistles paid $99 at wally world, I used to have a uniden Atlantis which I also paid about $100 for.  Uniden makes a good radio, I really like my cobra as well.  Good luck in the search.

The $20 Aquapack says it floats the VHF - I keep meaning to test that...  It IS sort of a pain in the butt for button and dial use though - the bag that is.

I recently got the west marine vhf 55.  It's on sale for $79 plus shipping online.  dropped it in the water at arw this friday without realizing it.  15 minutes underwater and no problem.  had to feel for it with my foot since water was murky.  belt clip is useless though
