Just looked at a yakma rack from REI for a ford focus; $830. I was NOT expecting that! I have two yaks and need a rack to get them around. How does everybody else get them around?

$830   :jawdrop

For that price I would go with the foam and rope set up I saw at Costco this weekend for $20 or $30.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Seems like the newer the auto, the more the yakima charges.
I would go for the foam & straps unless you have cash to burn. The foam blocks will work for a while until you decide what you want to do.

I've got the yakima q tower system on my pickup shell, all I had to do was install the gutter plates, total cost was about $200.
On my bronco, the thing's pretty much a beater used mostly for shuttling the kayak, so I've got a rusted steel basket rack bolted through the roof, when it was new the rack cost me about $200.

I suspect the focus doesn't have gutters, and it does have a rounded roof, which make the tower choice especially important ie, yakima figures they have you in a corner.
