I  always catch an extra fish for the ranger who lives in the trailer who is also a yak angler and a really nice guy and have never been hassled.

And by "extra fish" I do not construe that to mean GB2 catches 11 rockcod (instead of 10) and gives the 11th to the ranger.  He gifts a lawfully caught and retained fish from his stringer and gives that away. :smt003

The fish are big down there and I usually stop fishing at 6-8 total and give one to the ranger. We all know that 11 would be pooching. :smt044

First of all I'm the person that wrote the post and from your interpretation it would appear that I was going to post the combo on a bill board and let "most of northern California" have access to it.  It was posted only on this web site and only intended to allow us to have access to the parking area for the sole purpose of unloading our gear.  I’m not sure if you’ve been to LK but the launch area is at the base of steep windy road and I would have gladly paid the $6 to be able to park at the base of the hill to unload/load.

Since the parking lot was full when we unloaded, once we set our yaks/gear off to the side we had to drive out of the park, unlock the gate and park off on the side of the highway.  In addition if you continue reading my post you'll see that the ranger, very courteously, allowed us to drive back into the park at the end of the day to load our gear and didn't charge us anything.  So I have to seriously ask you if I upset anyone, ruin people's chances to use the area, shoot myself in the foot, cause another closure, etc?

The members of this website “help” and support each other because let's face it, there are times where our lives depend on each other.  Since you’ve singled me out and find me “disrespectful” you should know that I have, in past, given a fellow NCKA member a 100 mile round trip ride because he lost his keys at Bean Hollow.  I didn't ask him for anything in return and would do again without hesitation.  As members we're always willing to help each other out and trust each other.  If it's any consolation not one NCKA member took my offer for the combo.  In keeping with the spirit of the NCKA community I hope we get a chance to fish and hunt together and we'll prove to you through our actions that we are very respectful of the environment and value the privilege of accessing these areas.
My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am.

The combo is probably in place to ensure a high quality camping experience for campers.  They probably had problems with non campers driving through in the middle of the night, maybe even theft.  I'm sure its not some privilege thing, just giving folks some peace and quiet at nite.

And I'm sure giving the combo out to early fishers is not at all a problem for park management.

Mountains out of molehills on this one.

Yes it is for peace and quiet, but also to make sure day use visitors pay up. The entry hut isn't staffed when the gate is closed.

If you search back a couple of years, you'll discover there was a serious problem in the past. I'm glad the current park staff is so amenable, reasonable and friendly. One particular head ranger had a major issue with people coming in early - and I'm talking walk-ins, not drive-ins. I was the beneficiary of one of his lectures (I entered during posted hours), and as far as he knew at the time I was there as a media member to publicize the park.

Any public discussion of this courtesy is bad news. By drawing attention to it, we run the risk of losing it again. I'd like to see this thread vanish.

I thought about this post at work today and I thought How ironic it was. I don't think many people thought about PMing Gary for the combo and it went largely unnoticed. Tinman a local was upset overreacted and got the exact opposite of what he wanted by bringing attention to it. Now anybody who wants knows how to get the Combo. I guess the old saying be careful what you ask for rings true.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Then (the person who posted) proceeds to offer the combo too who ever wants it. I find this very disrespectful.

Gary has been a long time respectable member of NCKA (I know that for a fact cause I know him personally).
I believe his intent about the combo lock was to benefit those who were hooking up with him for that day. And like PK said, Limeklin is not all that - besides, it's not like WE ARE THERE EVERY WEEKEND....it's too far of a drive for a majority of us anyway....so why sweat it?

Besides that, have any of the residents, locals, park rangers complained about this "combo made public" tragedy??  :smt002

Answer: Not yet...but if we continue this discussion then maybe it will.
