Kevin (XSquid) and I hooked up to find some good top water action and sparse frog bite in the delta.  It was Kevin's maiden voyage in his new Tarpon140.  It looked great and was smooth and fast.

Both of us picked up a couple bass on the early morning buzzbait bite.  We each got a few senko fish on the outgoing tide.  Then we started hitting the "mats" with frogs.  Kevin got a few blow-ups and missed a hook-set on one.  I couldn't get any hits on the frog though.  After about two hours of froggin', Kevin boats his first frog fish of the season.  A nice healthy two pounder.  Later, I picked up another senko fish.

On the way in to the marina, Kevin manages to catch a real frog on his frog bait.  A nice big fat one too!

The weather was hot and the mossy frog water is growing in thick and heavy now.  All in all, we both had 6 fish, most around two pounds.

I'll be out there again tomorrow.  PM me if you want to go.

As always it was a good time fishing with you Bryan.   The frog eating a frog got a good laugh!  Good luck tomorrow.

I can't post any of the pics from today.  Unfortunately, my non-waterproof camera decided that it had enough of the abuse I give it out on the water.    The topwater bite seems to be pretty reliable in the am now, nothing gets the heart going like watching a bass slam your offering.  Not many sizable fish today, but a good bite when the tide was up.

All for now, my brain feels like it got more burned than my legs..................................

Nice report.  I like the frog report.  I've never heard of anyone catching a frog on a frog lure.  Thats way funny/

Tried again today.  I couldn't get any topwater action on the buzzbait or the popper.  Switched to senkos for the rest of the morning.  Caught and released six smallish (1-2 pound) bass.  On the way back to the marina, I threw the frog on the mats for a while.  Finally after 30-40 minutes, I got popped and landed a 2+ pound LMB on the frog.  No other blow-ups on the frog though.

On the flip side, I have noticed that most boat traffic seems to be Saturdays.  I enjoyed a quiet peaceful trip with very few boats and bassers.

9 times out of ten, when you throw a frog to a real bullfrog, he's gonna' jump all over it! Cannibals to the max. When I was a kid that is how we used to harvest them for a "tastes just like chicken" frog leg feast.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Good to hear you got your frog fish Hobie.  It should only get better with the onset of warmer weather.  I still can't believe how fast the weeds have developed out there!

I've heard from a number of places that frogs rank very near the top of all species for being voracious.    A biologist said:  A frog doesn't look at anything, without considering it as food.

My daughter, doing a "mosquito study" (using a battery-powered vacuum cleaner to gather mosquitos from the undersides of freeway overpasses during daylight hours)....was prowling the shore of a just-drained rice paddy, wherein she found the body of a bullfrog, whose dessication caused the outline of it's last meal to be clearly visible.    Inside the bullfrog (and possibly it's cause-of-death) was an ENORMOUS ...just ENORMOUS....crawdad.
