Going to give my home turf a shot despite what Mooch says :smt004
Last year I hooked a 35" @ 20# hali and am going in for a repeat. The last two times I have fished MBK this year the wind has been relentless only to arrive back home to glass and plenty of kelp out front. Sounds like it is doing a little better than MBK right now so I am going to try my luck, will either launch out of the west side of the capitola pier although the parking and coordination of that there is a little much. Will likley launch out of the SC harbor at the ramp and paddle down to the point. If you are interested in joining me give me a call and email.  Mike

mike maybe we will get to fish, not sure I will be able to fish thursday, but I will try... almost definitely friday.

wind is supposed to be bad wed/thurs tho. so capitola may be the only place to go, but stoggie and I know what it is like paddling back to the harbour through that wind. brutal. he suggests launching from new brighton, at least you get blown home. but my rental house is right by the harbour so I may launch at the harbour and just tough out the paddle home. again. (could be very stupid!).

as for mackerel, I have not seen any but heard of a couple scouts. the water was really warm when I surfed monday morning, so maybe they will be here soon. seems like we see the smelt first tho and I haven't seen those either yet.

Man I really envy the guys that can get away during the week. But this week with gale force winds thru Thursday, I will wait till the weekend.

I would also like to hear a report on your trip. Good Luck

Sunday looks like the better day, 5 to 10 kt winds, 3 to 7 swell at 11 sec. and wind waves under 2 ft.

In the wind, I would prefer to launch at Capitola of New Brighton, that trek back to the harbor in the wind will poop out an old man like me.

If anybody wants to launch from New Brighton this weekend, let me know, I live about 1/2 mile from there and we could all load up in one truck and save the parking fees. Only issue there is that they don't open as early as I like to go out.

Lots of jacksmelt at the Cap wharf according to Ed Burrell.

Better news is tons of halibut coming over the rail at the wharf, including 4-5 keepers this week.  A few halibut caught in or near the kelp edges as well.  Rockfish being caught same place.  Swimbaits are doing the trick.

Best news is Ed caught a WSB in 50 FOW between Cap Wharf and Cement ship today .. 10 pounder, followed the birds working bait and threw a Sassy Shad swimbait the fish semed to like.

good luck guys, catch one for me.

John while you are in town, please call me up and come over to visit.
