Was going to hit the bay for buttes but when I got up at 4:30 is was blowing really hard so I changed plans and hit Sonoma. Arrived at 5:30 and was greeted with ocean like conditions :smt013. Started out trolling for Steelies had 3 drive bys but it was so windy by the time I reeled up to the fish they were gone :smt013. Ducked into a cove on the east side spotted some fish at 15' dropshot to the bottom 12"LMB dropped again hook a biggie takes me to the bottom and hangs me up on a tree I pull the line and a piece of the tree comes up with a Lucky craft Pointer like new score :smt007. Catch a few more dinks then I cross the lake to hit the rocky points for smallies. When I get to the 1st point I can see the smallies hanging in 5' of water and they are on the bite every point is good for 4 or 5 fish avg. 15". I'm having a blast smallies fight so hard it's unreal have about 30 hook ups landing a little more than half of them before it shuts down. Easily my best day for smallies at Sonoma too much fun. No real bigs but 3 at about 17" and a bunch at 15" smallest was about 12". The LMB were biting at the back of the coves and the PBs were doing really well, I didn't really fish for them but caught a few to 15" off the points.
On the way back down the lake I saw some of Mooch's buds cleaning the dam :smt005

Thanks for the report Dropshot. I was just wondering about Sonoma, as Mendo has sort of turned on for the smallies, (for me at least).
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Sounds like a great day Mike. Those smallies are nothing to laugh at... even the smallest of smallies. Got to love the way they just fight and fight and fight...

Forgot to take a pic but the lake has really dropped, a lot of the flats I fished 3 weeks ago are now totally exposed looked like about 5'.

Saw this sign at the launch, Freeze your Waders??

I would guess it's only a matter of time before they outlaw Secret agents at lot of our lakes.

I've been pondering the kayak bass thing and it does seem dropshotting is the way to go.

when you do it, how much weight do you use and it is all vertical below you or do you cast out the dropshot rig?

I use 1/8th most of the time but I only fish it to about 15'. Vertical is not necessary but the closer to it the less you hang up. If you fish it vertical shallow you will spook the bigger fish.
